*note: we did make this recipe on our griddle however you can absolutely make this inside your home using a large saucepan OR cast iron*
Ingredients
2 Large Onions, sliced in ½ inch chunks
1 lb of ground beef, rolled into 6 equal balls
1 tsp of Montreal Steak Seasoning
1 tbsp of Mustard
6 slices of cheddar cheese
Balsamic Glaze
Mild banana peppers
Hamburger Press
Parchment paper
Optional: hamburger buns
Sauce:
½ cup of ketchup
½ cup of mayo
1 tsp of cajun seasoning
4 tbsp of pickle de gallo
Instructions
In a medium sized bowl, combine all sauce ingredients together. Prep your onions by slicing them ½ inch thick (these are going to replace hamburger buns)
Preheat your griddle on low-medium heat, drizzle some oil (of your choice) on top.
Place down onion slices letting them cook for 15 mins each side, you can use a hamburger press for an even cook. Once golden brown, flip onions onto the other side and repeat the cooking process.
As your onions are cooking, set your rolled ground beef onto your griddle. Using the same hamburger press and parchment paper, press down your rolled ball until it resembles a smashed burger. Once nice and brown, sprinkle Montreal steak seasoning and a squirt of mustard then flip. Add a slice of cheddar cheese on all your smashed burgers, cook until the cheese is melted.
Back to the onions, drizzle some balsamic glaze on one side, then flip.
Assembly: onion slice, hamburger patty, hamburger patty, onion, drizzle the sauce on top, and eat with a mild banana pepper.
